smm.exe is the SpoolMyMail spooler. "The SpoolMyMail Spooler (SMM.EXE). The SpoolMyMail Spooler sends the COM-generated MIME files to the recipients. To achieve this, the program checks the Spool directory in regular intervals for new files. All necessary information, such as the sender and receiver, is extracted from the MIME files, so that the data can be sent directly, i.e. without an external mail server, to the intended recipients."
